El Chato was a great experience. I ordered the “menu para dos” and found it generous—perfect if you’re hungry, but otherwise, order individually. The service was fantastic, and the ambiance was perfect for a date or business dinner. I especially recommend the carrot salad and the fish dish (with pear). The wine selection was excellent. If you’re not that hungry, skip the set menu and order à la carte.
El Chato was a great experience! We were dying to try it after they won best in Latin America now on 2025. All the food was amazing! The highlight for us was the first dish. The trout thingy they served us had an explosion of flavors. We did the wine pairing and had a great time. It was nice, didn’t felt pretentious. I was able to enjoy it with my partner and mom.
Went there for lunch today with my dad and friend. It was a must try for them because they have never tried the food. We had the best service possible. Our server was named Carlos and he was so attentive, informal, outgoing and made the experience 100% worth it!! This is definitely unique experience with the food and the story behind the food! I had videos but only allowed pictures for the post… Octopus, pork, grilled prawns, lamb with cabbage, ceviche, chicken hearts and mambe for dessert. 100% worth every dollar with excellent service from Carlos!!
Perhaps had I not been keenly aware of the fact El Chato was recently voted the best restaurant in all of Latin America, I would have gone in with lower expectations and been delighted. However, that was unfortunately not the case... I will say that the oysters were yummy and the bathroom was cute. As for the rest... First, we were not very warmly greeted and all of the waitstaff in general seemed quite impersonal and preoccupied. Second, as soon as we sat down, they informed us that the two dishes we had come here to try were not available - the lamb and beef. What remained was mostly seafood, which hadn't been what we'd expected. Third, the crab claws had nearly no crab in them and tasted like a poor copy of KFC. The bread likewise was unremarkable, especially considering we had to pay extra for it. Fourth, the portions were indeed tiny, as they would be on the tasting menu. Ordering just two items left me quite hungry, but nothing else on the menu looked good... so i found myself slurping down the sauces just to fill myself up. And finally, the desserts were not sweet nor flavorful at all. Darn. Overall, I'd give this a pass. It's certainly made me reevaluate taking the Top 50 list seriously at any rate...
A sublime experience. Traditional Colombian dishes elevated into a fine-dining tasting menu. Note for the restaurant: improving the speakers’ sound quality would enhance the overall experience.
